Media Literacy..

My first lecture of Media Appreciation is all about MEDIA LITERACY.. Hmm. What's the definition of media literacy?

Media literacy is a repertoire of competences that enable people to analyze, evalute, and create messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres, and forms.

There are 8 elements of media literacy and 7 skills of media literacy, but I will just long story cut short, list down and explain one from each because this is a blog not an essay.

From the element and skill of media literacy, I think 'Ability to enjoy and appreciate media content' and 'Discover the part of the story that's not being told' are the element and skill that I agree the most. We always enjoy the media that those producer produce it with hard work but do we know how to appreciate it? We should learn how to appreciate media before we enjoy it. It's a hard work that we cannot see from the scene but it all hide behind the scene. Besides that, there are a lot of story that haven't being told by public so the skill of media literacy is going to let the public knows what is happening now so the public will knows.

Media are very powerful as we all know about it. As an example, I'm a Chinese that only know Chinese, English and Malay but I'm in love with South Korean boy band - Super Junior! I enjoy listen to their songs and performance, even their talkshow or DJ hosting although I'm not fluent in Korean, but I try to learn it step by step and listen it to improve my Korean language. It's the powerful of media that I can't imagine that I can actually learn a foreign language that I had never touch it before.

That's all for my opinion of Media Literacy.

Media Literacy - Beyond your imagination.

Baraka - Without saying a word, you can light up the dark.

Last Friday, the day before the long break of Hari Raya, my lecturer of Media Appreciation let us watched a movie named "Baraka". It's indeed a kind of movie that I never watched it before. Can you imagine that in the whole movie, there are no actors, no plot, no storyline and nobody talking around to lead us to the movie. At first I think that it would be boring for me because this is not the type of movie that I like, but when it started about 10 minutes, it slowly attract me.

What I see from Baraka it's like we need to treasure what we have right now. The people in those third-world countries need to pick up those trash that in the garbage to sell it and try to survive. Besides that, I'm surprised when I saw how those people strongly believe in their religion, this is the part that I'm most admired at.

After watching Baraka, the only word that keeps appear in my mind is - "Silence Speaks Than Sounds". For Baraka, speaking is way too much than sounds. The producer is too amazing that how he can 'speak' with his every shoot and let us understand what he wants to express

Without saying a word, you can light up the dark.
